Home sleep test
An overnight sleep study that is done at the patient’s home for diagnosis of sleep apnea (does not monitor brain activity nor sleep state)
Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)
In lab daytime sleep study typically the day after a nighttime study to evaluate excessive daytime sleepiness and narcolepsy.
Maintenance Wakefulness Test (MWT)
In lab daytime study used to measure how alert you are during the day. It shows whether you can stay awake for a defined period of time.
Polysomnography (PSG)
In lab sleep study to diagnose sleep disorders. This test records brain waves, the oxygen level in the blood, heart rate and breathing, as well as eye and leg movements.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
Once a patient is diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea a study will be done in the lab using the CPAP equipment. This equipment allows air to flow in the lungs under slight pressure to prevent the airways from narrowing or closing.
